Community Growth & Classes
This month we've had some new and old faces come to classes, and we continue to bed in consistent habits with classes. I've personally enjoyed seeing people get stuck in, build friendships, and the group chats become a bit more engaging as people get more familiar with each other, even making plans to coordinate their next class booking! Things you love to see #sharedsuffering.
May should see the introduction of a new 'Intro Class' to encourage and start to hopefully lead to some new members. Additionally, our referral system will go live too (through the new app). More details to come, but in short, send someone our way and get £10 off your own membership, and they'll save money too! I'll share more details on how this works when the bSport App goes fully live.
I have also seen a steady and continuous uptick in massage appointments both through ClassPass and the general booking form which is wonderful to see.
Test Week
At the end of April we spent 2 weeks testing Bench, Squat, Deadlift & Cleans, and cardio capacity with 'Meeko's Triangle'. Some incredible Numbers went up & I've highlighted a few in the table below
Member | Deadlift 1RM | Bench press1RM | Back Squat 1RM | Clean 1RM |
Ali | 125kg | 55Kg | ||
Tracy | 102.5kg (2) | 50KG | 80KG | 42.5KG |
Mandy | 80KG | 32.5KG | 65KG | 35KG |
I am working on building a 'PB board' to celebrate our numbers and track your milestones.
Keep your eyes peeled.
Persevere isn't just about classes, though. Several personal training clients had fantastic test weeks during the month of may, including:
Simon hit a new bench PB
Janani (who is 73 years old) learned to deadlift half her body weight for REPS
Avery swam an incredible 2km continuously
Several of my Massage and PT clients will be running the Edinburgh Half/Marathon at the end of the month - they've been training hard for months so wishing them all the very best as some of them compete for the first time and others hunt a new pb.
The results really do go on and on but i love to pick some highlights, because i am always so impressed with the graft my clients and members put in.
New Booking System Is Coming...
If you've been to any class over the last few weeks you'll have heard me talk about me being in the weeds developing (this new website) and a new booking system thats going to integrate Classes, PT and Massage. Not only will it prove to be a much smoohter integrated system for myself to manage as we grow (buildingin scalability). It will also offer a much smoother and offer less friction for current and future members to book classes.
The Good news is the system is actually up and running - it is integrated with Class Pass, the current schedule, and all current members are IN the system (many of you received an email already). Some people have even booked classes through it. I have also integrated all my key services into it & linked the website and systems to things like Massage and PT landing pages/Google Business pages. It works, and it is satisfying and glorious (and a big relief because I genuinely might have cried if I had got this wrong!)
The Bad news is all of the minutiae, email templates, forms, legal documents, and uploading additional 'products'. Is a laborious task and it takes time and testing. So there are lots of loose ends I need to chip away at. Additionally, I am awaiting bSport team to do a data integration of around 160 past and current clients across all my services.
Bottom line, sometime in May we'll make the full switch (and I'll communicate that to everyone). If you have any remaining credits, they'll be automatically transferred over, and anyone on a subscription will be prompted to add their card details to their new account. From the 1st of June, we'll be making all bookings, payments and management through bSport.
For now, you can continue booking through TeamUp, but if you want the App the links for these are in the 'member area' and can be found here or directly on the Class timetable page.
Programming - May onwards
For the next 3 months we'll be focussing on the basics, and layering key skills- getting everyone to deliver:
Good Mechanics
Solid Consistency
Then High intensity
Everyone, can continue to develop their skills with the fundamentals and its something I believe should be revisited. Squatting with good form, maintaining a better front rack position, more efficiency in our clean and snatch and smoother transitions in our movements means we can perform better under fatigue, and achieve better results and improve our fitness through increased work capacity. Expect to be coached (enthusiastically) and supported to tidy up some of those things you may be struggling with. I encourage you to push yourself in the skill sections, to try things you think 'I cant do that' and remember you cant do those things YET. Then we modify for intensity of the workout.
Strength class will build on the last block, but the clean will be substituted for snatch & Overhead squat in the 4 week rotation.
June - Community Events
With the better weather coming its time to get outside on hopefully some nice days the current thinking is
Some additional classes like a 'summer series' or 'PE in the park' - fun classes to get us moving in the sunshine over June and July - they'll be free to come and open to non-members. If they do end up replacing a current class on the timetable, you would be able to book into these without using a credit on your current pass. The closest options being Holyrood Park.
A beach day - Looking at a Saturday afternoon or Sunday in June, think a picnic-style get together down Portobello - fun games, music & a chance for us to just be together as a community - partners, kids and pets highly encouraged.
Will confirm this in the group chat and through classes.
We are entering the 6 month at Edinburgh Strength. How quickly the time goes! If youve got any shoutouts, updates or things you want to share for next months blog then let me know in person or drop me a message
Lets get after May
